The second edition of Nature Fest-a five day mega event comprising various activities has taken dazzling start here at local Lajwanti Sports stadium.
The event organised by Punjab Government’s Tourism & Cultural Affairs Department and District Administration received enthusiastic response of people during bird watching at Pong Dam, cultural activities by students and exhibition of varied local and other states products at stall put up by the artisans. The visitors also enjoyed the star night performance by the renowned Punjabi singer Alap Sikander till late evening on first day.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, who personally visited various stall of artisans, said that the purpose of the ‘Nature Fest’ is to showcase the rich heritage and massive potential of nature in the district besides exhibiting the hand made products by the artisans. She urged people to must visit the Lajwanti Stadium to have a look on magnificent products vis-a-vis relishing the variety of eatables at food stalls. The second included activities at Solis, Tharoli including night camping, trekking, night live band, meditation, nature photography, folk dances and performances of local artists, which mesmerised the audience. The stalls of artisans also received enthusiastic response by people as the fest site remained full of crowd till late evening. The Education Department put up stall of school mission, Citrus Estate and FAPRO stalls exhibited organic products, Red Cross displayed its wings project. Likewise, artisans from other districts and states also brought their products to the fest which were getting impressive response of people.
The Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that there is open entry to the fest at Lajwanti Stadium, where nearly 100 stalls had been put up. She also informed that the third day would witness Cyclothon from Lajwanti Stadium around 7:00 am followed by Kida Carnival at Van Chetna Park, Kite Show, Cultural Activities and screening of India-Pakistan match at stadium in the evening. She said the Off-Reading at Kukanet will take place on Monday while on Tuesday-the concluding day would also be attractive one with Boating and Jungle Safari at Chohal. The famous Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal will also entertain the audience at Lajwanti stadium in the evening of concluding day, she added.
Mayor Surinder Kumar, Chairman BACKFINCO Sandeep Saini, District Planning Committee Chairperson Karamjit Kaur, Chairman Improvement Trust Harmeet Singh Aulakh, Councillor Rajeshwar Dayal Babbi were also present at the beginning of this five day event.
