Dr Ajay Bagga to receive ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award for blood donation service


Hoshiarpur/Oct 2 /Daljeet Ajnoha— The Punjab State Blood Transfusion Council has decided to honour Dr Ajay Bagga, a centurion blood donor and former Civil Surgeon, with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in recognition of his decades-long contribution to voluntary blood donation, transfusion services and public welfare.
Award ceremony on National Voluntary Blood Donation Day
The award will be presented to Dr Bagga on October 5 at a state-level function to mark National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, to be held at the Punjab Municipal Bhawan, Chandigarh.
The honour acknowledges his sustained work in promoting voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation as a means of strengthening community brotherhood and national unity, as well as his leadership at the BDC Blood Centre, Nawanshahr, where he serves as Blood Transfusion Officer.
Dr Bagga’s response and message to donors
On being selected for the award, Dr Bagga expressed deep gratitude to the Blood Transfusion Council, fellow donors and everyone who has supported him on this journey.
He said that blood donation brings peace of mind, patience and satisfaction, as the donated blood helps keep alive patients in hospitals who might otherwise suffer due to blood shortages.
Dr Bagga urged every healthy person between 18 and 65 years to make blood donation an integral part of life and donate blood every three months.
Background: A record of service
Dr Ajay Bagga, who retired from government service in 2017, has donated blood more than 103 times since his first donation on September 11, 1984, at Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur.
He now leads a 36-member team at the BDC Blood Centre in Nawanshahr, which has twice received the top-performing blood centre award from the Punjab State Blood Transfusion Council (2021 and 2025).
