Members of the Shri Guru Ravidas Sadhu Sampradaya Society staged a protest outside the district police headquarters here on Monday, demanding the quashing of a case registered against Sant Jasvinder Singh Dandian at Chabewal police station.
Protest over “false” case based on Dr Ajay Mall’s statement
The protesters alleged that the case, registered on the basis of statements by Dr Ajay Mall, was “factually incorrect” and being used to distort truths concerning the Ravidasia faith. They said no new government notification—by the Punjab or Central government or under the Indian Constitution—had been issued regarding the Ravidasia religion, and accused those behind the FIR of twisting facts.
Memorandum handed to SP (Headquarters) in SSP’s absence
With SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik unavailable, the delegation submitted its memorandum to SP (Headquarters) Navneet Kaur Gill. Leaders of the sampradaya demanded that the case be revised and a fair, impartial inquiry ordered.
Police promises “fair probe within five days”
Addressing the protesters, SP (Headquarters) Navneet Kaur Gill assured them that a fair investigation into the matter would be conducted within five days, and further action would be taken on the basis of the probe findings.
