A Roll Observer appointed by the Election Commission of India will visit Hoshiarpur district on September 8 to review the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls, according to Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Aashika Jain.
IAS officer Daljit Singh Mangat, who has been designated as the Roll Observer for monitoring the SIR process in Punjab, will hold meetings with sector officers, MPs, MLAs and representatives of recognised political parties during his visit.
Review meetings with officials, political parties
DC Aashika Jain said the Roll Observer will convene a meeting on September 8 with sector officers, Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha members, and representatives of political parties to discuss the progress of the voter list revision exercise under SIR-2026.
The agenda will include:
Progress of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in the district
Registration of eligible voters, including first-time voters
Claims and objections received during the current phase
Field-level verification of documents and voters by Booth Level Officers and other staff
After the meeting, the Roll Observer will review the claims and objections filed by citizens regarding the draft electoral rolls, as well as the verification work being carried out on the ground.
SIR-2026 timeline and voter participation
The SIR-2026 process in Punjab is being conducted under strict directions from the Election Commission of India to ensure transparent, fair and time-bound revision of voter lists ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.

Claims and objections window: August 13 to September 12, 2026
Disposal of claims/objections: By October 8, 2026
Publication of final electoral rolls: October 12, 2026
Eligible citizens whose names are missing from the rolls, or who will turn 18 on or before October 1, 2026, can apply for inclusion using Form 6. Form 7 is for objections or deletion of names, and Form 8 is for corrections. Applications can be submitted to the concerned Booth Level Officer/Electoral Registration Officer or online via the Voter Helpline portal.
Administration ensures compliance with ECI guidelines
Aashika Jain said the district administration has made all necessary arrangements to complete the SIR-2026 process in accordance with Election Commission guidelines. She directed all concerned officers and staff to carry out every step of the revision with seriousness and responsibility, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral rolls.
The draft electoral roll for Punjab, published on August 13, saw about 20.66 lakh names removed statewide due to deaths, duplicates, migration or non-traceability, while around 12.80 lakh new entries were added, reflecting the scale of the revision exercise being monitored by Roll Observers across districts.
