Pilot’s leadership will strengthen Punjab Congress; victory in Assembly polls certain/Ravinder Bindu Bhublan

Hoshiarpur/Sept 6/Daljeet Ajnoha — Congress workers in Hoshiarpur district have welcomed the appointment of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Sachin Pilot as the new in-charge of Punjab Congress, saying it will energise the party ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Ravinder Bindu Bhublan, vice-president of the District Congress Committee (Hoshiarpur), said there was “great enthusiasm” among party workers after Pilot was given charge of Punjab, replacing former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel.

“With Sachin Pilot at the helm, the Congress will become stronger and its victory in the upcoming Assembly election is now certain,” Bhublan said.

He added that Pilot’s appointment had also triggered a “wave of happiness” in the Gujjar community, which sees him as a prominent and respected leader. “The Gujjar community will stand firmly behind its beloved leader,” he said.

Context: Pilot’s new role in Punjab

The Congress high command announced on Saturday that Sachin Pilot, a senior OBC leader and former Rajasthan deputy chief minister, would serve as AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab, a move aimed at uniting the state unit and countering the BJP’s push among OBC and Dalit voters before the 2027 polls.

Both major factions in the Punjab Congress — those aligned with former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and with state president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring — have publicly welcomed Pilot’s appointment, hoping it will ease internal friction and sharpen the party’s election strategy.
