MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa on Tuesday inaugurated the 70th under-17 Inter-District School Badminton Championship (Boys and Girls here being organised by the School Education Department.

 

While meeting the students, MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa said that the State Government had initiated landmark steps to promote sports at grassroots level. He urged students to participate in sports along with their academics to further improve their overall growth as well as bringing laurels ij in their favourite sports. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Government had started the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ providing people from different age groups opportunity to participate in their preferred sports and showcase their talent.

The MLA said that the Punjab Government would develop 3,000 modern sports grounds in villages at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore, with the number expected to increase to 9,000 in near future. He said free sports kits were also being provided at these grounds, while 6,000 indoor gyms were being established in villages to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle. District Education Officer Harjinder Kaur said it was a matter of great pride for Hoshiarpur that the district education department had been entrusted with hosting the state-level school badminton competitions.
