— A meeting to finalise preparations for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) upcoming “Nasha Mukt Punjab” (Drug-Free Punjab) mega rally was held here on Thursday at the residence of Avtar Singh Dandia, district president of the BJP Kisan Morcha, in Chabbewal assembly constituency.
The meeting was convened under the leadership of Avtar Singh Kang and saw a large turnout of local party workers and functionaries. Addressing the gathering, Kang said the BJP will launch a state-wide mega rally against the growing menace of drugs in Punjab on September 24, which will commence from multiple locations across the state and culminate on September 30.
According to Avtar Singh Dandia, the concluding event of the rally will be addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is expected to speak before a large gathering.
Campaign details
The anti-drug campaign, dubbed “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra”, is part of the BJP’s broader outreach ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls.
While national reports indicate the yatra will be flagged off by BJP national president Nitin Nabin around September 18 and cover all 117 Assembly constituencies over 12–13 days, local leaders in Hoshiarpur are coordinating ground-level mobilisation for the September 24 rally leg.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and mobilise support for the party’s promise of a drug-free Punjab.
