Punjab govt should release DA immediately, don’t drag case to Supreme Court/ Dr Bagga

Pensioner and former Civil Surgeon Dr. Ajay Bagga, along with social activists, on Friday urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to immediately disburse pending dearness allowance (DA) arrears to state employees and pensioners this month. In a press note, Dr. Bagga said the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in benches led by Justice Harpreet Singh Barar and later by Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor, has already ordered the state to release the DA.
Dr. Bagga described it as regrettable that despite two clear High Court orders the Punjab government is contemplating taking the matter to the Supreme Court. He warned such a move would waste public money and damage relations with employees and pensioners. He emphasized that DA is not a favor but a right of workers and retirees, and appealed to the Chief Minister to respect the court’s rulings and the dignity of the beneficiaries, and not subject millions of employees to further uncertainty and litigation.
