The decision by Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri to run a bus service from Haroli (Himachal Pradesh) to AIMS Bilaspur via the Beet area in Punjab has solved a major connectivity problem for residents of the Beet belt, Congress district vice-president Ravinder Bindu Bhumbla said on Monday. The new service, he added, will make it significantly easier for people from the Beet area to reach AIIMS Bilaspur for medical treatment.
“Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri has taken note of the problems faced by the people of the Beet area and launched the Haroli–(via Beet)–AIMS Bilaspur bus service. This has established full bus connectivity for the Beet region,” Bhumbla said. He noted that travel to pilgrimage sites such as Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Gurudwara Kirtanpur Sahib and Mata Naina Devi has also become more convenient for residents.
Bhumbla criticised the Punjab government led by the Aam Aadmi Party, claiming it has neglected the Beet area’s transport needs. He said there is no bus service from Mahindvani or other points in the area to important religious destinations like Sri Anandpur Sahib, Kirtanpur Sahib, and Mata Naina Devi, nor are there affordable buses to take patients to AIIMS Bilaspur. This lack of services, he said, has caused severe hardship for local people.
Bhumbla demanded that the Punjab government operate at least three bus services connecting the Beet area to Sri Anandpur Sahib, Kirtanpur Sahib, Mata Naina Devi and AIMS Bilaspur. “If the Congress government in Himachal can take such steps for the benefit of people in Punjab, the Punjab government’s failure to act makes it clear that the AAP administration’s development agenda and problem-solving are limited to advertisements and slogans,” he added.
