— A full-dress rehearsal was held today at the Police Lines ground for the district-level Independence Day function scheduled for August 15. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik inspected the drill and reviewed arrangements. Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh will hoist the national flag at the ceremony.
During the rehearsal, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain inspected the parade that followed the flag-hoisting. Under Parade Commander DSP Kulwant Singh, contingents from the district police, PRTC Jahan Khelan women police, district women police, Punjab Home Guards, 12 Punjab Battalion NCC, Girls Guide, Government Girls Senior Secondary School Railway Mandi, Scouts School of Eminence Khwas Purhira, PRTC Jahan Khelan and Police Lines combined bands rendered a salute. Students from various schools presented a mass PT show, cultural and patriotic programmes, and vibrant gidda-bhangra performances. The cultural items stirred strong patriotic fervour and won widespread appreciation.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, the chief guest at the Independence Day function, will also felicitate families of freedom fighters and martyrs, officers and employees who have rendered meritorious service across departments, and organisations that have made notable contributions to social causes. After the full-dress rehearsal, she addressed a meeting of officials and urged everyone to discharge their duties with dedication.
Ashika Jain appealed to district residents to participate enthusiastically in the district-level Independence Day celebrations. She said the nation takes pride in completing 79 years of independence. Present on the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Rakesh Kumar Meena, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Nidhi Kumud Bambah, Municipal Commissioner Jyoti Bala Mattu, Assistant Commissioner (J) Sumit Mudh, SDM Parampreet Singh, RTO Amandeep Kaur Ghuman, SP Navneet Kaur, SP Manpreet Shimar and officers from various departments.
