Former MP and senior BJP leader Avinash Rai Khanna has accused the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of using government schools and their students for political propaganda. Khanna said that instead of strengthening the education system, the chief minister is using government schools to polish his political image.
“Schoolchildren are not promotional material for any political party; they are the future of the nation and the state,” Khanna said. “Using children for political purposes is not only regrettable but also an affront to the dignity of education.” He alleged that while the chief minister publicly critiques private schools as self-serving, he is simultaneously exploiting free education and facilities in government schools for political branding and publicity.
Khanna also took a jibe at the administration, saying that government schools run on public tax money and are not the property of any political party. “The way the Punjab government is celebrating the achievements of government schools and their students for political gain gives the impression that it has turned these temples of learning into platforms for political marketing,” he said.
He urged the government to focus on delivering quality education, appointing adequate teachers, providing modern facilities, improving infrastructure and securing brighter futures for students if it genuinely cared about the state’s education system. “Taking credit for children’s achievements to further political campaigns cannot be claimed as a true governmental success,” Khanna added.
“Politics should be for the future of children, not at the cost of it,” he said, urging Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to recognise that every child studying in a government school is Punjab’s future and must not be used as a tool for political ambitions.
