Seva Kendra Staff Union Warns Punjab Government — If Demands Aren’t Met, Strike Will Resume from July 10

Leaders and activists of the Seva Kendra Employees Union Punjab held a crucial meeting attended specially by Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary of Punjab AITUC, and vice president Vinod Chugh. The session was chaired by the union’s state president Baljinder Singh Majha alongside other senior office-bearers.
Union members expressed deep concern that the state government and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora have backed away from earlier assurances. The leaders said employees had resumed duty on June 10 only after the minister’s assurances, following a strike that ran from May 26 to June 9, 2026. It had been agreed that all employees would continue in service without interruption and that the unauthorized absences recorded during the strike would be corrected and wages adjusted accordingly.
However, the union charged that administrative officers and the minister’s staff are now not answering calls. The absences remain unrectified, and the government is reneging on its promises, they alleged. The meeting reiterated the union’s key demands: bring Seva Kendra staff under the department instead of company employment, grant a fair pay rise with implementation of a minimum wage grade, extend benefits for Sundays and other public holidays, pay overtime or TA/DA for extra duties, and immediately release pending salaries of security guards. The union also demanded an end to disputes with employees.
The union concluded by warning that if these lawful and legitimate demands are not met promptly, it will resume intensified agitation from July 10, 2026, exercising its trade-union rights — for which the Punjab government will be fully responsible.
