J.S.S. Asha Kiran Special School, Jahankhelan celebrated its 31st foundation day with great enthusiasm on Friday. On the occasion, a Sukhmani Sahib path was held, attended by school staff, diploma students, special children, members of J.S.S. Asha Kiran Pingalwara Special School, Kakkon, and all members of Aashadeep Welfare Society, who received blessings together.
A van was donated for the convenience of special children by Aashadeep Welfare Society patron Paramjit Singh Sachdeva on the birthday of his mother, Inderjit Kaur. Inderjit Kaur also inaugurated the van and said it would prove useful in improving access and ease of travel for the children.
Langar was also served on the occasion. Aashadeep Welfare Society president Harbans Singh thanked Paramjit Singh Sachdeva and wished the family a bright future. He said the special school was established on May 1, 1995, with just four special children and later received land from the village sarpanch in 2002 for its building.
The school currently educates 110 special children on campus, 25 hostel residents, and other students learning from home, taking the total to around 200. Harbans Singh also said the school provides hostel facilities under the Aasra Project, along with vocational training, and has helped 15 special children secure placements so far.
The school also runs vocational initiatives such as shagun envelopes, kitchen napkins, and candle-making projects. Three special children have represented India at the International Special Olympics Games, and coach Anjana has led India as well, making the institution a source of pride.
At the event, CA Taranjit Singh presented Rs 51,000 to the school. Other present included Secretary Colonel Gurmeet Singh, Malkit Singh Maheru, Harish Thakur, Ram Asra, Harmesh Talwar, Vinod Agrawal, Anita Talwar, Kulwant Singh Sachdeva, Pinky Sachdeva, Dimple Sachdeva, Tanishka Sachdeva, Ranveer Sachdeva, Tayara Sachdeva, Rishal Sachdeva, Sanjeev Gupta, course coordinator Barinder Kumar, Principal Shaili Sharma, and Vice-Principal Indu Bala.
