A special programme on water conservation was organised at the BSF camp in Kharkan by the Shri Prakash Rai Khanna — Shrimati Kaushalya Devi Khanna Memorial Trust, chaired by former MP Avinash Rai Khanna. Speaking at the event, Khanna urged the security personnel undergoing training at the camp to become aware of water conservation and to pledge to save this precious resource.
Khanna said that while Border Security Force personnel are already guardians of the nation’s frontiers, if they make conserving water part of their duty alongside their regular responsibilities, they can help avert the looming global threat posed by water scarcity. He added that BSF personnel can set an example and encourage all three services of the country to adopt water conservation as a fundamental duty.
“History shows that major global movements have often begun in India,” Khanna said. “If our armed forces integrate water conservation into their service ethos, an impactful message on water stewardship will reach across the world.”
Khanna also announced that the Trust will soon hold an essay-writing competition to generate discussion on water conservation among the personnel. Winners will be awarded certificates and prizes. He reiterated that the Trust’s core objective is the protection of water and the environment.
