Under the directions of Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Mandeep Kamal, District Mass Media Officer Tarsem Lal from the Mass Media Wing conducted an awareness drive on various health programmes at Government High School Tuto Mazra.
Informing about the event, District Cluster Education and Information Officer Tarsem Lal emphasized the importance of always consuming clean and safe drinking water along with nutritious food. He provided details on free treatment for snake and dog bites available at the nearest district hospital. Additionally, he raised awareness on preventing hepatitis through free testing and treatment, as well as the AIDS Control Programme, stressing that such knowledge is crucial to protect children from these diseases.
Lal also educated attendees on accessing health services under the Chief Minister's Cancer Relief Fund. He highlighted the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, vaccination drives, and the anti-drug abuse campaign "Yudh Nashin Virudh Abhian," encouraging children to engage in sports. "If we connect children to games and playgrounds from school days itself, we can collectively achieve the true objectives of the anti-drug campaign," he said.
Furthermore, under the National Tobacco Control Programme, he imparted health education on the harmful effects of tobacco products, particularly passive smoking. He noted that when someone smokes in public places, nearby children, women, and elderly people suffer even more damage than the smoker themselves. Awareness was also created on other health initiatives.
School staff members Renu Bala, Vanita Jassal, Kulwinder Kaur, Kuldeep Singh, and Mandeep Kaur were present on the occasion.
