Rajya Sabha member and pioneer in environmental conservation, Sant Balbir Singh Sechewal, visited Galowal village in Dasuya today to review development works linked to the sacred Bein River and listen intently to the problems of local residents. Dasuya MLA Advocate Karamvir Singh Ghumman and Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain were specially present on the occasion.The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, administrative representatives and a large number of villagers. Detailed discussions were held on infrastructure development along the sacred Bein River, road construction, water supply, damage from floods and erosion, and future plans.Sant Balbir Singh Sechewal stated that the demand for road construction along the sacred Bein had been raised by residents for a long time. Fulfilling this demand, the Punjab government has approved the construction of a nearly 7-km-long road from Saidonwal village in Dasuya area to Bhusha Bridge along the Bein River route from Terkiana to Sultanpur Lodhi. This project will cost around ₹3 crore, directly benefiting dozens of villages and improving connectivity.He informed that the issue of constructing an important gate on the sacred Bein had also been pending for a long time. Now, with a cost of about ₹3.5 lakh, the tender process for its construction has been completed, and work will begin soon.Speaking on the drinking water problem, Sant Sechewal said that tankers have previously been provided to villages facing shortages, and those still deprived will also receive them shortly.He added that erosion and damage have occurred at some places due to the strong flow of the sacred Bein. Surveys are being conducted by relevant departments for protective spurs, bridge construction and other necessary works in such sensitive areas. Work will commence on priority basis after securing funds from the government based on the survey report.MLA Advocate Karamvir Singh Ghumman said that development works in areas linked to the sacred Bein are being advanced in a planned manner. Serious efforts are underway on issues like road construction, gates, bridges, drainage and erosion protection. He assured that legitimate demands raised by sarpanches and villagers will be fulfilled in a phased manner.At the end of the meeting, Sant Balbir Singh Sechewal thanked the district administration, SDM and all officials and employees of related departments for their cooperation. Villagers also appreciated Baba Sechewal's efforts, stating that permanent solutions to long-standing issues of environment, waterlogging and basic amenities have become possible under his guidance.On this occasion, SDM Dasuya Kanwaljeet Singh, DSP Dasuya Balwinder Singh Jaurra and other officials were also present.
