In an effort to increase students' awareness of Punjabi language, literature, culture, history, and geography, the Linguistic Department of Punjab organized a quiz competition under the guidance of Director Jaswant Singh Zafar in Moga district. Mandeep Kaur, a final-year B.A. student from Government College Talwara, Hoshiarpur, won the first position across Punjab in the Class ‘A’ category, bringing pride to her district, parents, and teachers.Mandeep Kaur was honored with a cash prize of Rs. 2,000, a medal, a certificate, and a set of books presented by the Hoshiarpur office of the Linguistic Department. Assistant Commissioner Oishee Mandal congratulated her, stating that such competitions help students prepare effectively for major upcoming exams. When Mandeep revealed her dream to clear the IAS examination and become a Sub-Divisional Magistrate, the Assistant Commissioner shared several tips on IAS exam preparation and wished her success.Dr. Jaswant Rai, Research Officer, elaborated on the competition, explaining that the Linguistic Department organizes these quizzes annually in three categories — Classes 6 to 8, Classes 9 to 12, and undergraduate students. Winners at the district level receive Rs. 1,000, Rs. 750, and Rs. 500 for first, second, and third places respectively, along with certificates. State-level prize amounts are nearly double. These contests not only boost student confidence but also foster a love for Punjabi language, literature, and culture.Staff members Birendra Singh, Lal Singh, and Pushpa Rani from the Linguistic Department office were also present at the event.
