A British Army delegation will be visiting India in November as part of an official Defence Engagement programme aimed at honouring the shared military heritage between India and the United Kingdom.
The visit will commemorate the valour and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who served during the World Wars and in the historic Battle of Saragarhi, one of the most renowned acts of courage in military history. The delegation will pay tribute to these heroes through a series of remembrance events, including a commemorative parade at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site in Delhi, and visits to locations of military and cultural significance across India.
The delegation will be led on ground by Major Munish Chauhan MBBS, MRCS, DMCC, PGDip, RAMC, a British Army surgeon and the only Indian-born surgeon currently serving in the British Army. With roots in Punjab, Major Chauhan is passionate about honouring the Indian contribution in both World Wars and strengthening the cultural and historical connection between India and the UK. He will accompany senior British Army leaders as they pay tribute to the gallant soldiers of Indian origin who displayed extraordinary courage and devotion to duty.
As part of the visit, the British Army team will also conduct several community and school engagements, offering opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange and mutual learning about regional traditions, customs, and values. These interactions aim to strengthen understanding and appreciation between the British Army and the communities from which many soldiers of Indian heritage have proudly served.
During the visit, special homage will be paid to Victoria Cross recipients of Indian origin, recognising their extraordinary bravery and enduring legacy. The British Army remains committed to celebrating this shared history of courage, service, and sacrifice that continues to unite both nations.
