S. Gurmeet Singh Madnipur, State President of the Punjab Government Aided School Teachers and Other Employees Union, along with Sanjeev Kumar, Vice President of the Union’s Hoshiarpur unit, has urged the Punjab government to immediately release the long-pending salaries of aided school staff and fulfill its pre-poll promise of merging them into the government education department.
The union leaders highlighted that aided school employees have not received salaries since March 2025, leaving thousands of families in financial distress. “Teachers and staff are finding it impossible to pay their loan installments and manage household expenses. With the festive season approaching, the government must act responsibly and release the salaries' grant without further delay,” they said.
Reiterating the demand for merger, the leaders reminded the AAP government of its election manifesto commitment. “At present, fewer than 2,000 employees are serving in Punjab’s aided schools. Both Haryana and Rajasthan have already merged their aided schools' staff into the education department. Punjab govt must honor its pre-poll promise at the earliest,” emphasized", Madnipur.
In a joint statement, Hoshiarpur District Union President Sukhinder Singh Baddon, Secretary Principal Neeraj Ghai, Cashier Balkar Singh, and joint cashier Anil Kumar backed the demands, stressing that resolving this issue is not only vital for the survival of thousands of employees but also for restoring confidence in the government’s welfare policies.
Appealing to Education Minister Harjot Bains and Secretary Education Anindita Mitra, the union representatives said: “Such a step will provide immediate relief and strengthen the image of the government as one that stands by its commitments.”
