District Magistrate Imposes Ban on Bathing in Rivers, Canals and Choas, and on Loitering Along Their Banks and Causeways
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/Sept.3
Due to heavy rains during this monsoon season, the flow of water in rivers, choas (seasonal streams), and canals of the district has become extremely fast and dangerous. In view of this, District Magistrate Ashika Jain has issued an order in public interest.
The District Magistrate stated that it has come to her notice that people often visit these places to watch the water level, take a bath, or roam along the banks and causeways. During such times, the water level can suddenly rise, and as the soil on the banks is very loose, there remains a serious risk of loss of life, livestock, and property. Additionally, such activities may also disturb law and order.
Keeping this danger in mind, the District Magistrate, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, has ordered a complete ban on bathing in all rivers, choas, and canals within the district boundaries, as well as loitering along their banks and causeways.
This order will remain in force until November 2, 2025.
