Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/July 30
On the directions of Dr. Basant Garg, Administrative Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and under the supervision of Director Agriculture Punjab, Jaswant Singh, a special enforcement drive was launched to check malpractices in urea sales by top fertilizer retailers and dealers across the state.
A special team comprising Dr. Karanjit Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Dr. Jatin Vashisht, Agriculture Development Officer (Enforcement), Hoshiarpur, was constituted to conduct in-depth inspections in Hoshiarpur district. The inspection drive was carried out with the active support of all Block Agriculture Officers (BAOs) of the district.
Block-wise special teams were deployed to conduct intensive on-ground verification at the premises of retailers and dealers with reportedly high urea sales. The inspections included thorough stock verification, invoice audits, and cross-checking of supply and sales records.
This enforcement drive was initiated to ensure that urea is distributed fairly and in adequate quantity to genuine farmers during the peak sowing season. The Department reiterated that hoarding, black marketing, or any form of malpractice in the fertilizer supply chain will not be tolerated.
The Agriculture Department has also urged farmers and the general public to report any cases of overpricing, artificial shortages, or suspicious activity by fertilizer dealers so that immediate action can be taken.
