High-Security Number Plates Mandatory for All Vehicles from July 1 Strict Action to Be Taken Against Use of Duplicate Number Plates

Starting July 1, the use of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) will become mandatory for all vehicles across the Una district of Himachal Pradesh. In an effort to strictly enforce traffic rules and ensure better vehicle identification, the Himachal Pradesh Police is launching an intensive drive to implement this rule.
The police have stated that strict action will be taken against those using duplicate number plates, as well as against unauthorized manufacturers of HSRP plates.
During a press conference, District Police Chief Amit Yadav informed the media that this move follows the earlier success of the “Double Helmet” campaign, under which two-wheeler riders were first made aware of the rule, and then mandated to wear helmets for both rider and pillion. The campaign has seen excellent public response, with a noticeable increase in compliance.
The new initiative will now focus on ensuring that all vehicles—two-wheelers and four-wheelers alike—are fitted with HSRPs. According to Yadav, vehicles without these secure plates are often targeted by thieves, making the implementation even more crucial.
He appealed to vehicle owners who haven’t yet installed HSRPs to do so immediately, warning that non-compliance will lead to strict penalties starting July 1.
The police aim to reduce vehicle-related crimes and improve road safety through these sustained awareness and enforcement efforts.
