In a candid conversation with senior journalist Sanjiv Kumar, prominent legal expert and advocate Ashwani Verma voiced deep concern over the escalating wave of cyber crimes affecting everyday citizens.
“The cyber world is no longer a safe space by default. Each click can be a risk if we are not vigilant,” said Advocate Verma, urging people to adopt digital caution as a daily habit. He highlighted that new and sophisticated methods of cyber fraud—such as identity theft, phishing, fake investment schemes, and social media impersonation—are being reported with alarming frequency.
He emphasized the urgent need for well-trained and technologically equipped cyber cells within the police force. “The nature of cyber crime is evolving faster than our investigative systems. Without specialized training and tools, tackling these crimes becomes a challenge,” he stated.
Advocate Verma also recommended that public awareness campaigns be conducted to educate students, professionals, and the elderly about cyber hygiene. “Knowledge is the first line of defense. A digitally aware citizen is less likely to fall victim to online fraud,” he added.
This powerful warning from one of the region’s most respected legal voices comes at a time when cyber security is becoming a critical concern across India, impacting not only urban centers but also small towns like Hoshiarpur.
